Frequently Asked Questions (And Answers)

Q - Are there plants that the deer don't eat?
A - We've learned that the deer will eat almost anything. We do have some perennials marked on our list (DR) that are less likely to be browsed. Usually it's those plants with a strong odor or taste such as Catmint and Salvia. Don't ever let them be comfortable around your yard. Use repellents such as feather meal, Bobbex™, or Liquid Fence™. A physical barrier (fence) is the only sure method to prevent deer damage. All of our nursery growing facilities are enclosed in a 7.5 ft. fence.

Q - Is the price for installation included in the price of the plant?
A - No, the price for the plant is the price for the plant. We no longer have an installation or planting crew. We can, however, make arrangements with one of 2 local landscape companies to plant the plants that we sell. We will guarantee survival the plants planted by these contractors for a calendar year. We will limit installations to Chaffee and Lake Counties unless there are special arrangements made.

Q - Do I have to protect trees from damage by the deer?
A - Most deer damage to trees is done when the bucks rub their antlers on the trunk. If you want to prevent this type of damage, you must do it before the tree is damaged. Use a 1 ft. diameter tube of welded wire fence, 4 or 5 ft. tall placed around the trunk of the tree and attached  with  wire to 2 - 2 ft. pieces of rebar, driven into the ground at the base of the tube. Shrubs can be destroyed by the bucks when they rub their antlers. Unfortunately, caging the whole shrub is about your only option for protecting these plants.

Q - How do you get your children to help in the garden?
A - Hide dollar bills amongst the weeds.
